What we can help with

We read everything sent to the address above. A few kinds of message we are particularly glad to receive:

• A number that looks wrong. Our calculators make specific, checkable claims: calories per person per day, gallons of water, running and surge watts. If a result does not match the arithmetic you can do on paper, tell us which tool and what inputs you used. The methodology behind every calculator is published on its own page, so a disagreement is usually resolvable quickly, and if the fault is ours we fix the tool, not the explanation.
• A factual correction in a guide. Our articles cite agencies by name: FEMA and ready.gov for water and kit planning, USDA and foodsafety.gov for outage food-safety windows, CPSC for generator placement, NFPA for fuel storage. If an agency has updated its guidance or we have characterized it wrongly, tell us which article and what the current guidance says. Corrections to safety-adjacent claims get priority over everything else we do on this site.
• Real-world experience that contradicts a guide. If you have been through an extended outage, an evacuation, or a storm season and something we recommend did not survive contact with reality, that is the most valuable mail we get.
• A broken tool. Blank results, a calculator that will not update, or anything that behaves differently on your device. Mention your browser if you can.
• A calculator you wish existed. We add tools based on what people ask for, provided the math is honest and the sources are real.

How we handle corrections

When we correct a substantive error, we change the text rather than quietly deleting the claim, and we update the page's modification date. If a correction changes the meaning of a passage rather than fixing a typo, we say so on the page. On a site about emergency preparedness, being visibly correctable matters more than appearing infallible.

What we will not do

We do not give individual emergency advice, and nothing here substitutes for instructions from your local emergency management office during an actual event. We also do not sell or recommend specific products on this site, so vendor pitches will not receive a reply.
